Ever since he was born, Yeon Woo could read other people's minds. The first thought he heard was the nurse's. "Wow, he's such a good looking little boy! The baby's really wrinkly... He's average but I should be polite and tell them that he looks good."
As a newborn, he could hear their thoughts but not understand them, so it wasn't a big problem for him. Being a baby, most of his time was spent with his mom. "Yeon Woo, say 'mom'. 'Mom!'"
They were happy times with his mom, lying on the floor and talking with her.
"There are many kind and beautiful people in this world, and it's so big! There are lots of places to explore. Let's go there when you grow up and can walk by yourself, okay?"
When the baby's brain started to develop even further, he could hear his neighbor's thoughts. "Wow, the scent of fresh coffee... It's the happiest time of the day... Coffee is just perfect. Ooh ah," but if he didn't concentrate, the thoughts of other people weren't always there.
"Lets eat num-num. You've got to grow big and strong!"
"Yes! I can skip tutoring!"
"Now lift up your bum, please." Because he couldn't control his body, his mom often had to change his diapers for him.
"Phew... This week's diaper expenses are already high... Even when he gets all of his stuff second-hand from his brother, it still costs a lot..."
"Money? Expenses?" As time passed, he learned more and more words and could understand the thoughts of people around him. It was devastating every time. "That's just how the world is." It was a thought that didn't normally come out of a child's mouth.
When all the other babies his age ate and took naps, his mind was continuously flooded with thoughts. His abilities soon expanded, and with concentration, he could hear everyone's thoughts in his whole apartment block.
"This month's secret stash of money... My wife wouldn't have a clue right?"
"He would have hid it somewhere in the house... He'll be in so much trouble when I find it..."
"I want to go fishing. I want to go fishing. I want to go fishing."
"I want to buy a speaker... Hmm, it seems like an essential for a person living alone like me. Lets see... Should I just get a 120 month payment contract?"
He matured faster than other children his age because he learned and understood such thoughts from other people. It couldn't have been positive maturing; he developed devious thoughts and a brooding personality.
"So all men act like that... Hm, then things like innocence won't help much in life."
When he entered preschool, he could hear other children's thoughts as well.
"Strawberry milk... Ah, I'm so thirsty!"
"It's mine...! It's my toy!"
"I'm sleepy... I'm sleepy... I'm slee......"
"Hehehehehe!"
These children are so dumb and simple! Yeon Woo sat by the preschool window, pondering.
Although he managed to hear many thoughts from the people around him, he still did not understand the exact meaning of them. Still, it was true that he became more mature than the kids his age.
With physical contact, he could read other people's memories too. It wasn't every little detail of their lives, but he could still manage to see their traumatic and dramatic recollections, or at least the general flow of their lives.
One person's memories helped Yeon Woo's mentality to develop even faster...
